Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js / TypeScript / AWS)

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and own core services across our platform. You'll work on distributed, API-driven systems handling authentication, payments, and real-time features, and will be expected to make architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and drive projects from design through production deployment.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain REST APIs and backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and frameworks such as NestJS or Fastify
• Own service architecture decisions across a microservices or distributed system, including data modeling in PostgreSQL and caching strategies with Redis
• Build and maintain authentication and authorization systems (JWT, RBAC, OAuth-based flows)
• Design and integrate real-time features using WebSockets or event-driven messaging (e.g. NATS)
• Deploy and operate services on AWS (Lambda, S3, Cognito, or equivalent), with Docker and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar)
• Integrate third-party services for payments, notifications, or messaging (e.g. payment gateways, Firebase, SendGrid)
• Write automated tests (Jest, Cypress) and maintain CI quality gates
• Collaborate with frontend/mobile engineers (React, React Native) on end-to-end feature delivery
• Mentor engineers and contribute to code review and testing practices across the team

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience, ideally in fintech, SaaS, or high-traffic consumer platforms
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript, with production experience in NestJS, Fastify, or Express
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar) and caching layers (Redis)
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, S3, Cognito) or equivalent cloud platforms
• Experience designing authentication/authorization systems and role-based access control
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and asynchronous messaging (NATS, Kafka, or similar)
• Working knowledge of CI/CD tooling and containerization (Docker)
• Comfortable contributing across the stack when needed (frontend/mobile exposure is a plus)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with distributed/remote teams
